Halloween is the best holiday. Costumes and trick-or-treating. But for tiny people only a few inches tall, it is impossible to go door to door for candy. Instead, the kids all plan a big scare that they do for their parents. But when Tom completes the perfect scare, he puts his whole family at risk.

The entertaining book The Littles and the Halloween Scare will amuse young readers and get their mischievous sides churning. The perfect read for some innocent, Halloween fun.

Lucy is super excited about Halloween coming. Every chance she gets, she tries to brainstorm with her brother Tom to come up with the perfect Halloween scare for their parents. But when they get a letter from their Uncle Nick, Tom is distracted.

The letter informs the littles that Uncle Nick is retiring from the Mouse Force Brigade Army and moving in to live with them. This fills Tom’s head with excitement to learn how to fight off mice like is war hero uncle. This leads to Tom and Lucy almost getting take to Henry Biggs’ school when they are examining his Civil War diorama. Then later, they are attacked by a spider in the attic while searching for a military costume that he can wear for Halloween.

But when the two are playing soldier and sneaking around, they overhear that the parent have never been scared by the kids before. In fact, they find the scares of Tom and Lucy cute. This frustrates Tom and sends his mind spinning with ideas to finally scare them for good. Soon Tom comes up with the perfect plan.

While Uncle Pete is listing to the Biggs’ radio through the hole in the wall, Tom and Lucy sneak out into the Biggs’ living room. They connect a microphone to the radio and give a pretend interruption saying the that big people discovered tiny people living in their homes. Tom and Lucy are laughing all the way back home. They enjoy watching their parent freak out and began packing up everything to flee.

Just before Tom gets a chance to tell them, he discovers that his trick was recorded by a tape player. And Mr. Big is about to listen to it. The littles must work together to prevent their secret to being revealed.

This great addition to The Littles series will get your kids in the Halloween spirit. My favorite part was meeting Uncle Nick and learn about his time living with the trash tinies in the city dump. I can’t wait to read about them in the next book.
